Imaging the Antarctic: A Talk by Peter James Smith

Artist, mathematician, writer and art professor Peter James Smith will deliver a historical survey of how photographers and visual artists have presented images of the Antarctic from the time of first contact through to contemporary representations of its landscape and inhabitants with particular emphasis on the work of contemporary New Zealand artists.

This talk is a rare opportunity to learn from a multidisciplinary expert who has exhibited his work in more than 70 solo and 100 group shows in New Zealand, Australia and internationally. Smith’s work is also part of the Suter’s collection, as well as many other private, university and public collections around the world.

The talk will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 2 pm in the Education Room at The Suter. The duration is approximately one hour.
