Being a volunteer at The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū Trust (The Suter) is a rewarding way to meet new people, extend your art knowledge and offer your time and skills to the community. The Suter is very fortunate to be supported by a dedicated group of volunteers.

Our guides are a valued and vital part of the Gallery team, enriching the gallery experience for our visitors by undertaking a variety of tasks including:

  • Meeting and greeting visitors during gallery opening hours

  • Acting as hosts and ambassadors at Gallery events (after hours)

  • Surveying Visitors

  • Talking to visitors about the collection(s), and

  • Assisting with a variety of administrative tasks including database management and reception duties

Our volunteers are encouraged to attend ongoing training programs that include talks by artists and industry professionals, in addition, we encourage volunteers to share their experiences of visits to other galleries and exhibitions.

We need a volunteer team of people of all ages and backgrounds, who share a strong interest in arts, culture and community. We would love to hear from interested Nelsonians of all ages who are interested in volunteering.
