Hineukurangi brings together clay makers of Māori descent to celebrate and uplift the realm of Hineukurangi, the Māori deity of clay. Showcasing more than 20 artists, emergent and established artists, including featured members of the Māori artist collective, Ngā Kaihanga Uku.
Te Ira Tangata is a display of artworks by local students who visited The Suter Art Gallery te Aratoi o Whakatū’s exhibition Kanohi Kitea, which showcases the art of moko kanohi, or facial tattooing. The students created their own tohu, or design, that represented their identity, their whakapapa, and their connection to the land and their culture. The display celebrates the inner potential of our tamariki, who are all taonga, born of greatness and full of possibilities.
Nikau Hindin was introduced to celestial navigation after spending time with a group of young navigators called Kapu Nā Keiki.
